His clinical research is focused at improving the diagnosis and treatment for men at risk of or men diagnosed with prostate cancer. His practice changing research on MRI has meant that the diagnostic pathway has meant that a large number of men can avoid a biopsy. His work on targeted biopsy has improved the risk stratification of men at risk. His pioneering work in focal therapy has meant that men can now have their cancer treatment without the usual side-effects associated with traditional therapies.
Prof. Emberton received his Bachelor’s of Medicine and of Surgery from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London, England, he also received a BSc in Psychology from Bedford College. He then completed fellowships at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of London, England. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
He has published more than 500 peer-reviewed publications (PUBMED) and has been cited in journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, and BMJ.
He has received numerous awards that recognise his contribution to improving the care of men with prostate cancer.

Dr. Rafael Sanchez-Salas is an internationally recognized urologic oncologist and a leading expert in image-guided focal therapy and precision surgery for localized prostate cancer. Graduating as Valedictorian from the Universidad de los Andes (Venezuela), he completed his surgical and urological training at the Universidad Central de Venezuela before pursuing competitive international fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (USA), Clínica Santa María (Chile), and L’Institut Mutualiste Montsouris (France).
From 2011 to 2021, Dr. Sanchez-Salas served on the faculty of L’Institut Montsouris, where he advanced robotic surgery and partial gland ablation techniques while training numerous fellows. In 2021, he joined McGill University, where he leads the multi-energy focal therapy program. His clinical and research expertise spans advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities, including High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), cryotherapy, irreversible electroporation (IRE), targeted transperineal prostate biopsies, and MRI-US fusion imaging.
Dr. Sanchez-Salas has authored over 300 indexed publications advancing the field of urologic oncology. He serves as the Co-Director of the McGill Urologic Oncology Fellowship. He is a frequently invited faculty member for major international organizations, including the AUA, EAU, SIU, CAU, and the European School of Urology.
Dr. Sanchez-Salas holds significant global leadership positions within the urological community, currently serving as President of the Focal Therapy Society, Treasurer of the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU), and Scientific Director/Academic Activity Officer of the Confederación Americana de Urología (CAU). He is also an elected member of the prestigious Association of Academic European Urologists (AAEU).

Professor Caroline Moore uses MRI and patient reported outcome measures, to inform the prostate cancer pathway, from community based screening, to hospital based diagnosis, to MRI-led active surveillance and focal treatment of prostate cancer. She works clinically with patients, and on clinical research that provides the evidence to change the patient pathway across the UK and beyond.
Her international consensus work includes START (MRI guided biopsy reporting standards), PRECISE (MRI reporting in active surveillance) and the PRECISION study demonstrating the benefits of an MRI-targeted prostate cancer diagnosis pathway, where 1 in 3 men avoid an unnecessary biopsy. She led the Re-Imagine screening study, using MRI and PSA as a community screening tool, showing that half of cancers found with MRI screening have a PSA blood test considered ‘normal’. She also studies the impact of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment on patient reported outcome measures.
She is the first woman in the UK to become a Professor of Urology, and the first woman to be awarded the Golden Telescope, for significant and lasting contribution to urology within the first ten years of consultant appointment.
She trained in medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School, Tooting, London, and went on to surgical and urology training across London and Surrey. She has written over 200 peer-reviewed articles on prostate cancer, working with national and international colleagues.
The research work done by her and her team is supported by many funders across the UK and internationally.
